Christensen Family

Alan and Cheryl Christensen’s passion for reading is multi-generational. Alan’s parents were avid readers and, even though money was tight, all their children were members of their own book-of-the-month club. Both Alan and Cheryl are pleased to see their own grandchildren emerging as readers as well. The Christensens could think of no better way to promote and preserve this precious practice than to support those who will be supporting future generations as they develop a love for reading. In 2013, the Christensen Family Endowed Reading Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to MSU Billings students with a Reading major or minor. The first scholarship was awarded in academic year 2013-2014.

Impact

“I am so honored and humbled that you chose me as your recipient of this year’s scholarship. I truly cannot thank you enough. As a first grade teacher at Lockwood, it is important to me that I am as qualified as I can be to teach the reading skills these kids need. With that, I decided to pursue my masters in Reading Education. Your contribution will help me in furthering my education.” – Helen W., Master of Education degree in Reading
