Academic Support Center Demonstrated Potential Scholarship
The Academic Support Center’s (ASC) purpose is to engage and empower individuals to become confident, capable, independent learners while providing academic instruction and support in a safe and encouraging environment. The ASC has seen students make progress one test at a time, one course at a time, and one semester at a time. They have seen, over 15 weeks, students go from tears of frustration to tears of joy upon passing a class. They have seen those same students who have been making progress stricken with major illnesses which compromised their academic status, thereby putting a halt on pursuing education. In each of these cases, these are the students whose dreams the Academic Support Center wants to support. In 2013, the faculty and staff of the Academic Support Center established the Academic Support Center Demonstrated Potential Scholarship to support students whose first steps toward their degree included developmental education courses. The ASC wants to affirm students for their achievements while on this journey. The first scholarship was awarded in academic year 2014-2015.
Impact
“My education is one of my biggest goals in life… I know that each class I take, each teacher I encounter, helps mold me and build me up in a way I know I can grasp success. My favorite place on campus is TRiO and the ASC because anytime support is needed you can go there and get it… I truly appreciate your generosity and thank you from the bottom of my heart.” – Cassandra B., Rehabilitation & Related Services major
