Daniel Gilstrap Memorial Scholarship
Dan Gilstrap was born and raised in Wyoming. In 1983, he moved to Billings, Montana, and started working in hospital maintenance; later, he worked as a mechanic for a road construction company. Dan bought Meadow Green Lawn Service in 1998. He put many hours of hard work into his business and was so proud of it; every customer was important to him. Dan was a self-educated man and a “jack of many trades.” He truly loved spending time with family and friends in the outdoors and was liked and loved by all he met. His greatest passions were hunting, fishing, and camping. Dan passed away at age 55 in an accident while doing what he loved — ice fishing. In memory of Dan, his father, Bob, established the Daniel Gilstrap Memorial Scholarship at MSU Billings to provide financial assistance to City College students. The first scholarship was awarded in academic year 2014-2015.
Impact
“I want to thank you for your generosity in providing the Daniel Gilstrap Memorial Scholarship. In going to college, I am paving the way for my younger siblings to pursue further education after high school. Thank you again for the scholarship. It enables me to pursue my studies and to do the best I can.” — Andrew S., Automotive Technology major
