Energy Laboratories Chemistry Endowed Scholarship

Energy Laboratories Chemistry Endowed Scholarship

Bill Brown, President, and John Standish, Vice-President, co-owners of Energy Laboratories, established the Energy Laboratories Chemistry Scholarship Endowment at MSU Billings in 1991 to provide scholarships for chemistry students. The partners’ goal was to forge a strong relationship with the University and with the chemistry department, which provides many of their future employees. Energy Laboratories, begun in 1952, tests water, air, soil and waste samples to determine if they meet pollution prevention standards. Clients come from the oil and gas industry, hard rock, coal, uranium and talc mining, municipal drinking and waste water, engineering and hydro technology firms, agricultural industry and government agencies. Bill Brown believes that Energy Laboratories has developed into a company that provides a needed and valuable service which plays a key role in protecting the environment. The company employs over 100 highly respected professionals — chemists, biologists, geologists, informational technologists and various other support staff. The work is exacting and the standards are high, but the workplace atmosphere is a positive one that has lured several migrating Montana graduates back to the state. The first scholarship was awarded in academic year 1991-1992.
