Geoffrey A. Fishbaugh Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Geoffrey A. Fishbaugh Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Geoffrey Arthur Fishbaugh never met a stranger in his 17 years. He collected friends and valued each because of their undivided differences and idiosyncrasies. The youngest of David and Mary Susan Fishbaugh’s four children, Geoff was the heart of his family. He instinctively knew when to comfort, when to tease, and when to offer a quiet hug. A happy person, Geoff shared that happiness with everyone. Never critical or judgmental, he was rarely even irritable. Geoff was always on the go, planning the next activity and what friends would be involved. Geoff was a bright guy with a subtle sense of humor. When his mother asked what was important to him, he replied, “Well, my family and friends.” In March 2006, at age 17, Geoff died of injuries from a skiing accident in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. In memory of Geoff and inspired by his passion for life, his family and friends established the Geoffrey A. Fishbaugh Memorial Endowed Scholarship to provide financial assistance to male elementary education majors at MSU Billings. The first scholarship was awarded in academic year 2006-2007.

Impact

“Thank you for your generous gift that will help me to continue my education. I am honored to be a recipient of the Geoffrey A. Fishbaugh Memorial Endowed Scholarship. My older brothers also attended Billings Central and knew Geoffrey very well. I can still remember my brothers sharing stories with one another as they laughed and cried. Geoffrey had an impact on my family and many others. For those of us at Billings Central that did not know Geoffrey, we were reminded of his loving, caring and happy attitude on a regular basis and we all strive to have the impact on one another that he had on his classmates. Thank you again for your generosity.” — Nolan T., Elementary Education and Special Education major
