Hardy Kindler Memorial Endowed Scholarship
The “Hardy” Kindler Memorial Scholarship Endowment fund was established in December 1986 by Erling Arestad in honor of E. R. “Hardy” Kindler. Mr. Kindler was selected as the state secretary-treasurer for the Farmers Unions in 1921, a job he held for over 14 years. He was a man who gave complete, honest and conscientious devotion to the entire organization. His record of service to the farmers of Montana and the Farmers Union organization knows no equal. This scholarship fund provides financial assistance to students from Eastern Montana or Northern Wyoming attending MSU Billings. The first scholarships were awarded in academic year 1987-1988.
Impact
“I was selected to receive the Hardy Kindler Memorial Endowed Scholarship. Words can hardly describe how thankful I am. Thank you for helping me obtain my dream! I will put this money to good use as it will cover the cost of books and help with my tuition costs. I choose to go to college at the age of 31 and with a full house. I have four small children, ranging in age from 2 to 7, so you can imagine how much it means to receive a scholarship. At my last job I realized I had to make a change in my life. I was working 40+ hours a week at a dead-end job on a fast track to nowhere, living paycheck to paycheck. I choose MSU Billings and their welding and fabrication program because it best suited my needs. When I complete my degree, I will be able to have a sustainable career with a salary that will enable my family and me to live more comfortably. Thank you again for the scholarship.” — Brian S., Welding & Metal Fabrication major
