Harold H. Winter Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Harold Henry Winter was born in 1885 in Quincy, Illinois. He attended the National Business College there and learned the pattern maker’s trade in one of Quincy’s factories. In 1908 he moved to Billings, Montana, where he owned and operated the Winter Hardware Company (originally known as Ryniker-Winter Company). As a wholesale distributor, he served retail hardware stores and similar retail outlets in Southern Montana and Northern Wyoming. Mr. Winter died in 1982. In 1986 his daughter, Jeannette Winter Tilley, established the Harold H. Winter Memorial Scholarship Endowment in his memory to provide financial assistance to MSU Billings students majoring in business. Jeannette passed away in 2004. The first scholarships were awarded in academic year 1986-1987.
Impact
“My family and I are very thankful for the generosity you have given us. I was selected to receive the Harold H. Winter Memorial Endowed Scholarship. The assistance in my tuition is greatly appreciated. I will use my education to become more valuable and my degree to expand my employment options. A dream of mine after graduation would be to move to Asia. I want my children to understand how big this world really is, and how different it can be. Thank you again for your generosity. It is very appreciated!” — Stephen M., Business Management major
