Homesteaders Scholarship

Homesteaders Scholarship

In 1995, the Homesteaders Scholarship – Petroleum County Scholarship was established at Montana State University Billings with a gift from an anonymous donor. It was the intent of the donors to provide scholarship assistance to students who were graduates of a high school in Petroleum County. Two years later, the criteria were revised to include students who were graduates of high schools in Petroleum and Garfield Counties. As a result, the name of the scholarship was changed to the Homesteaders Scholarship. The first scholarship was awarded in academic year 1996-1997.

Impact

“Thank you so much for awarding me the Homesteaders Scholarship for Petroleum County. The financial aid helps me quite a bit because my older brother is currently still in college and my younger sister will be attending soon. I chose City College at MSUB because I want to study computer science at a school close to home. I have always been interested in computers and am currently building my own computer from scratch. After graduation, I’d like to use my skills learned at City College to work somewhere within the state of Montana. Again, thank you so much for your generosity. I appreciate it very much.” — Braden J., Computer Programing & Application Development major
