Husted Endowed Scholarship

Husted Endowed Scholarship

In 1971, Paul Husted graduated from Knoxville High School in Knoxville, Iowa. He went on to attend Marshall Town Community College where he played football for two years and graduated. In the fall of 1972, Eastern Montana College (now MSU Billings) offered Paul a scholarship to attend and play football. This was a life-changing opportunity for Paul as he could not afford to attend college. While at EMC, Paul developed as a student and leader and made lifetime friends and relationships. A number of professors took a real and personal interest in Paul’s development. He graduated in 1976 and finished his master’s program in 1979 in education and counseling. Paul’s career in the field of education as a teacher and coach in Montana was short – only four years. After gaining a year of sales experience Paul was given the opportunity to work for Edward Jones and Co. This was another life-changing opportunity for him. Now 34 years later, Paul and his wife, Lori, consider themselves blessed and have developed a philanthropic attitude for helping others. The Husted Family Scholarship Endowment is a thank you to MSU Billings for the opportunity provided to Paul at a time when he really needed it. The Husteds hope this scholarship will provide a Great Falls, Montana, student with the opportunity to grow and develop their career and someday pay it forward for someone else. The first scholarship was awarded in academic year 2016-2017.

Impact

“Thank you so much for the Husted Endowed Scholarship that I have been awarded. I am proud to say that I will be part of the MSU Billings student body next year. I have chosen to attend MSU Billings because I feel it is the best place for me to receive an education and to further my learning in the career field that best suits me. Thanks to the Husted Endowed Scholarship I am able to have the first year at MSU Billings free from the worries of having student loans. Again, thank you so much for your support.” —Hannah C., Business Administration major with a Management option
