International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Union Local 240 Endowed Scholarship
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) is one of the largest labor unions in the entertainment and related industries. Since the birth of the organization, the stage hands and projectionists have been joined by a great variety of other crafts persons in the numerous branches of the entertainment industry, including motion picture and television production, product demonstration and industrial shows, conventions, facility maintenance, casinos, audio visual, and computer graphics. In December 2006, members of the Billings IATSE Union Local 240 established the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Union Local 240 Endowed Scholarship to provide financial assistance to students at MSU Billings who meet the criteria listed below. The first scholarship was awarded in academic year 2007-2008.
Impact
“I am greatly appreciative to have been chosen for the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Union Local 240 Endowed Scholarship at Montana State University Billings. I returned to school as a non-traditional student. I had been wanting to return for a few years, knowing I have more potential than I had currently been living, but was concerned about taking the financial jump. This scholarship money will positively help me stay focused on my school work and grades while knowing I am not gaining more debt. Being acknowledged for my hard work keeps the fire inside burning. I cannot say thank you enough.” —LeAnne T., Environmental Studies major
