James and Miriam Pickens

Professor James B. (Jim) Pickens retired from the Michigan Tech School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science after 30 years of dedicated service. Known for his roles as a teacher, storyteller, and graduate program coordinator, Jim also developed the successful Master of Forestry program, helping 47 students earn their degrees. He was honored with the Hardwood Research Award for his innovative hardwood log-bucker training program. Reflecting on his career, Jim cherishes the impact he made on his students. In retirement, he looks forward to spending time with his spouse, dogs, garden, and orchard, and aims to “meet every fish in Michigan and Montana.”
