Janet Dunlop
The Janet Dunlop Memorial Endowed Scholarship honors a pioneer in special education.
Janet Elaine Dunlop, was born Sept. 13, 1933, in Minot, North Dakota. A 1951 graduate of Minot High School, she earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Minot State Teacher’s College and a master’s in special education from Eastern Montana College (now MSU Billings). She went on to teach at William James Junior High School from 1974 to 1989, during which she specialized in working with students who experienced learning disabilities.
She met her future husband, Lowell Dunlop, at Minot State Teacher’s College. They were married on Aug. 14, 1955. Janet passed away on Dec. 31, 2019, in Billings, surrounded by family.
This award was established by her family with the intent of supporting future special education instructors.
