John C. and Helen E. Voelker Endowed Scholarship

John C. and Helen E. Voelker Endowed Scholarship

In his later years, John Voelker resided at Westpark Village Retirement Center. In 1999 he established the Helen E. Voelker Scholarship Endowment in memory of his wife to provide scholarship assistance to MSU Billings students who were past or present employees of Westpark Village Retirement Center. John passed away in July 2006 at age 87. He will be remembered as a man of integrity who loved his family and friends and helped more people than can be counted. In October 2006, his daughters requested the name of the scholarship to be changed to also honor their father. The scholarship was appropriately changed to the John C. and Helen E. Voelker Scholarship Endowment. The first scholarship was awarded in academic year 2000-2001.

Impact

“I wanted to thank you for giving me the opportunity to receive the John C. and Helen E. Voelker Endowed Scholarship. I will be beginning my 3rd semester in the ASN Nursing program at City College and will graduate in the spring. After that I plan to continue on into the BSN program the main campus is offering. I have been working at Westpark Village for just over three years. I started when I was in high school as a wait staff and have since moved to the nursing department and now work as a CNA. It is a wonderful place to work and I am grateful for the opportunities they have given me. Than you again for making this scholarship possible!” — Heather C., Nursing major
