Kathryn A. Carpenter Endowed Scholarship in English

The Kathryn A. Carpenter Scholarship in English Endowment was established in 1994 to honor Mrs. Kathryn Carpenter, wife of Eastern Montana College (now MSU Billings) former president Dr. Bruce Carpenter. Contributions to the fund came from family and friends of Kathryn. Creation of this endowment was announced at the retirement party for Dr. Bruce Carpenter. As one of the many contributors to the endowment said, “Kathryn has given Bruce love, strength, and encouragement throughout his career. She has also instilled a love of great literature in our children. Bruce and Kathryn will be missed by EMC, and by the entire community of Billings. However, we think it is fair to say that they will be long remembered with great love and respect for the many contributions they have made.” This endowment provides scholarship funding to upper division English majors. The first scholarship was awarded in 1995-1996.

Impact

“I am exited to learn about literature and all aspects of English and everything that I need to know to become a great teacher for future students. I’m not really great about writing about myself, however, but I would like to thank you for the scholarship that will help me pursue my dreams and goals.” – Mikala K., English major with a Teaching option
