Marguerite Hunt City College Undergraduate Endowed Scholarship

Marguerite R. Risvold Hunt was born November 17, 1906, on her parent’s ranch seven miles from Absarokee, Montana, by the Stillwater River. She graduated from Absarokee High School in 1924. Beginning May 1924, she was continually employed by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation on construction projects in Montana, Washington, Nevada, California, and Colorado. She resigned from her position when she married Nelson B. Hunt in 1951. Following his death in 1962 she returned to work with the Bureau until she retired in 1970, when she moved back to Montana. Marguerite was a gracious and generous lady, a woman whose life spanned most of a century through the Depression and Dust Bowl to seeing men walk on the moon. She was frugal because of what she and her family had experienced, yet very sensitive to the needs of others. Always willing to chat, bright and quietly witty with a quick smile, Marguerite loved a good cookie with her conversations; to her a plump oatmeal raisin cookie was hard to beat. She was a pleasure to be with, and the next visit was an event happily anticipated. Marguerite passed away on January 25, 2002, at age 95 with no immediate next of kin. In her will, she left a portion of her estate to MSU Billings. From her gift, the Marguerite Hunt City College Undergraduate Endowed Scholarship was established to provide scholarship aid to worthy students, thus fulfilling her wish to further the educational opportunities of youth. The first scholarship was awarded in academic year 2004-2005.
