Marilynn A. Sexton Endowed Scholarship

Marilynn A. Sexton Endowed Scholarship

Marilynn Sheard graduated from Eastern Montana College (now MSU Billings) in 1960 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in English Education. While attending EMC, she met Ron Sexton, whom she married in 1961. Marilynn taught high school English for many years and was a respected teacher at Skyview High School in Billings upon her retirement. In 2004, Dr. Ron Sexton, then Chancellor at MSU Billings, established the Marilynn A. Sexton Scholarship Endowment to honor of his wife, Marilynn, and her passion for education. The scholarship endowment provides scholarship assistance to freshman students, with preference given to non-traditional students. The first scholarship was awarded in academic year 2015-2016.

Impact

“Receiving the Marilynn A. Sexton Scholarship means so much to me and will help me further my dream of earning a degree. Currently, I work 30 hours a week and attend classes full-time. The schedule is hectic, but worth it. Thank you again for helping me further my education. MSU Billings has been amazing thus far in helping me transition into student life. Being a non-traditional student has its challenges but the challenges are absolutely worth it.” — Jayme S., Psychology major
