Marjorie and Spencer Lauson Endowed Scholarship

Marjorie and Spencer Lauson Endowed Scholarship

The Marjorie and Spencer Lauson Endowed Scholarship was established October 2003 by Dr. Marjorie Lauson. Education was her passion and she had a deep love for children. Whether she was the teacher or the student, Marjorie always excelled and never let a challenge keep her from her goals. Marjorie was one of the first graduates of the Master’s degree program in Early Childhood Education at Eastern Montana College (now MSU Billings) and tirelessly worked to enhance and promote the program. Appropriately, income from the endowment provides much-needed scholarship aid for worthy and talented students who are working towards a minor or an option in Early Childhood who could not afford to attend MSU Billings without such support. Spencer Lauson passed away in 1996; Marjorie in 2005. The first scholarship was awarded in academic year 2004-2005.

Impact

“I wanted to thank you for the continued generosity provided by your family to students at Montana State University Billings through the Marjorie and Spencer Lauson Endowed Scholarship. As a recipient of this scholarship, I am personally very grateful to you for this generous donation. This will be my senior and final year at MSUB. The completion of my degree in Education would not have been possible without the financial aid that has been available to me, such as this scholarship. Having three kids of my own, the financial burden of returning to school has been great, but scholarship assistance has significantly eased that burden and made it possible for me to work towards my dream of becoming an elementary school teacher. Thank you so much for supporting this wonderful program through your generous scholarship donation.” — Crystal C., Elementary Education major
