Mathematics Department

The faculty of the department of mathematics at MSU Billings established the Math Faculty Scholarship Endowment in 2006 to provide financial assistance to students majoring in mathematics at MSU Billings. The mathematics major is designed to include students with a wide variety of goals, tastes, and backgrounds. Mathematics is an excellence preparation for fields from technical to legal, from scientific to managerial, and from computational to philosophic. It is also a source of pleasure and satisfaction for people in every line of endeavor. MSU Billings programs are constructed to welcome interested students of all sorts. The programs reflect the diversity of interests of students and the increasingly diverse nature of the mathematical sciences. Through the generosity of faculty who sponsor this scholarship, future mathematics majors will have the opportunity to fulfill their dreams and realize their potential. The first scholarship was awarded in academic year 2007-2008.

Impact

“I would like to personally thank you for giving me the Math Faculty Endowed Scholarship. I can not tell you enough on what an honor it is to receive this award. It will help me pay my way through college and lift some of the financial burden. Currently, I am majoring in Mathematics with a teaching option. I feel confident in my decision in this major so far. With the classes I have taken, it is clear to me that I am in the right field. Thanks again for this wondrous opportunity!” — McKenna M., Mathematics major with a teaching option
