May Harper Glantz and Harry Glantz Memorial Endowed Scholarship
May Harper Glantz received her teaching diploma from Eastern Montana Normal School (now MSU Billings) in the summer of 1929. She was a member of the second class at Eastern to receive a Life Teacher’s Certificate. In 1941, May married Harry Glantz. They spent most of the war years in Seattle, Washington, where Harry served in the Navy, returning to Billings, Montana, in 1945 to ranch on Duck Creek and raise a family. They had three daughters: Karen, Betty, and Peggy. May taught for 35 years and was a charter member of the Billings Delta Kappa Gamma honorary teachers’ society. Harry was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. 1634, American Legion Post 4, Disabled American Veterans, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 394. He was a strong, generous man with a great sense of humor who loved to hear a good story and loved to tell a good story. In 1981 when May passed away, the May Harper Glantz Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established by her family and friends. Mr. Glantz passed away in 2001. At that time, the name of the scholarship was changed to the May Harper Glantz and Harry Glantz Memorial Endowed Scholarship. The first scholarship was awarded in academic year 1983-1984.
Impact
“I am grateful for your investment in me and believe that I will make you proud. It has been a long journey for my family and I, but every time someone helps me with completing my education I feel more empowered to keep pushing not only for myself but for the amount of people believing in me… I take every act of generosity personally as an intentional investment from others to personally empower me and my children to live lives full of purpose. It’s humbling to know how many have taken an interest in me, my studies, and my ability to make a difference in someone else’s story, and I will be thinking of each one as I start my career in education.” — Stephanie S., Elementary Education major
