Nicholson Single Parent Endowed Scholarship
Having been single parents in the past, Alan and Nancy Nicholson both realize the challenges involved in single parenting. Their desire to help single parents develop a better life for themselves and their children prompted them to establish the Nicholson Single Parent Scholarship Endowment. By sponsoring a scholarship, they feel they are impacting two generations at once. The children not only benefit from the education and better income that the parents will achieve, they also benefit from the role model they observe as their parents strive to improve themselves. Alan and Nancy both have used their education to develop successful careers which has benefitted both their children and their community. Their generous scholarship support provides financial assistance to single parents attending MSU Billings. The first scholarship was awarded in academic year 2007-2008.
Impact
“It is with great delight that I am contacting you today. I received the Nicholson Single Parent Endowed Scholarship! Presently I am getting my Masters in Mental Health and Rehab, while also raising my young son as a single parent. I understand that you both have been familiar with single parenthood, school, and kids. There is nothing as rewarding as raising a child and attaining Higher Education. Yet, as you both know, the journey is challenging to navigate sometimes. A gift such as the Nicholson Single Parent Endowed Scholarship goes great lengths toward making the combination more of a success… This scholarship both touches a Momma’s heart and serves to benefit many others. I sincerely thank you both and appreciate how you two put your experiences, resources, and insights to works for others, like my son and I.” — Rebecca J., Clinical Rehabilitation & Mental Health Counseling major
