Robert Waterman Endowed Scholarship for Graduate Studies
Dr. C. Robert Waterman was a teacher and academic administrator for a cumulative 40 years. He joined the faculty at Eastern Montana College (now MSU Billings) in 1956.He served EMC and Montana for nearly 30 years in various collegiate capacities, including Department Chairman, Divisional Chairman, Dean of Education, and Director of Graduate Studies. Of his academic endeavors, he aspired most to that of an excellent teacher. Dr. Waterman was known for his instructional and personal service to students. Those who came with problems were not turned away without help and follow-up assistance with solutions. He strongly believed that professors and staff were employed by students and their parents to provide the best education possible and guide students in their efforts to achieve that goal. Dr. Waterman retired in 1983 as Professor Emeritus from EMC. He passed away in 2005 at the age of 85. In recognition of Dr. Waterman’s caring leadership as Director of Graduate Studies from 1962 to 1968 and from 1979 to 1982, the Robert Waterman Endowed Scholarship for Graduate Studies was established. Annual scholarships are awarded to graduate degree students who, by reason of exceptional scholarship and professional contributions, promise to be a leader in the profession. The first scholarship was awarded in academic year 1992-1993.
