Roseanna Chatham Milne Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Roseanna Chatham Milne was born on March 14, 1911, in a log house on her mother’s Crow allotment land in the Rottengrass area. Rose began her schooling at age seven by riding horseback to a one-room school, later transferring to Lodge Grass, Montana, when her parents built a home there. At that time her height and athleticism made her a champion basketball player. She was on the Lodge Grass Class C basketball state championship team in 1931, scoring more points individually that year than all other competitors combined. She was the only member of her family to eventually complete high school, graduating from Lodge Grass High School in 1932. Rose loved Montana and was proud to live her entire life in this state. She passed on September 23, 1997. In memory of her mother, Pat Milne Hitchcock established the Roseanna Chatham Milne Memorial Endowed Scholarship to provide scholarship assistance to Native American students transferring from a tribal college to MSU Billings. Rose would be pleased to know that she was able to help others get their education and send their spirit on its way. The first scholarship was awarded in academic year 2008-2009.

As this year’s recipient, I am grateful for the opportunities this award will provide me. I rely on financial aid, grants and student loans to help finance my education. Receiving this scholarship will help reduce my financial burdens and provide assistance for me as I continue pursuing my education… Thank you again not only from me, but from everyone receiving this scholarship, for supporting the students of Montana State University Billings.
