Talen Energy Women's Softball Endowed Scholarship
Talen Energy is one of the largest competitive energy and power generation companies in the United States. They generate and sell electricity, capacity and related products from a fleet of power plants that uses diverse fuel sources: carbon-free nuclear, clean and flexibly dispatched natural gas, efficient coal that is well-position to meet current and pending environmental regulations, and renewable hydro. Talen Energy creates value through excellence in operations and skillful commercial management of their generation fleet, with a strong focus on cash returns. Their strategy embraces these core concepts for creating value, optimizes their operations, and supports strategic capital allocation and growth that focuses on creating value, not simply on creating scale. Talen Energy values citizenship and believes in partnering to create positive outcomes in their communities. They feel good when they give back, and by pooling their resources, they have a positive collective impact in the neighborhoods where they live and work. In December 1999, PPL Montana (now known as Talen Energy) established the PPL Montana Women’s Softball Endowment to support the fast-pitch softball program at MSU Billings. The endowment was officially re-named Talen Energy Women’s Softball Endowment in October 2015 to reflect the company’s name change. The first scholarship was awarded from the endowment in academic year 2005-2006.
Impact
“I would like to thank you for offering me the Talen Energy Women’s Softball Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship is really going to help me fulfill my scholarly goals. I chose to attend MSU Billings because of the softball program and the great atmosphere here in Billings… I will continue to work hard the remaining year of my college education and this scholarship will aide me in doing so.” — Heather T., Business Finance major
