Jack and Isabel Haynes

Jack and Isabel Haynes

Jack and Isabel Haynes owned and operated The Haynes Picture Shop in Yellowstone National Park. This was a continuation of the photo shop originally started by Jack Haynes’ father, Frank J. Haynes, in 1884. The Haynes family photographs, post cards, guidebooks and souvenirs opened the wonder of Yellowstone National Park to generations worldwide. Montana and Yellowstone National Park were an integral part of the Haynes family history, and Jack and Isabel demonstrated the strong work ethic, entrepreneurship, and commitment to continuing a successful business, which enabled them to establish The Haynes Foundation in 1958. The goal of The Haynes Foundation was to assist in providing scholarships to deserving Montana students. Jack Haynes died in 1962; philanthropist Isabel May Haynes died in 1993. The establishment of the Jack and Isabel Haynes Scholarship Endowment at MSU Billings in 2016 demonstrated The Haynes Foundation’s 50+ year commitment of promoting higher education in the State of Montana and helping to prepare students for a lifetime of success. This endowment will benefit students for many generations to come and the goals of The Haynes Foundation will continue to be fulfilled in perpetuity. The first Haynes Foundation Scholarships were awarded to MSU Billings students in 1983-1984.

Impact

“I have been working diligently to earn this scholarship and am so thankful for this contribution to my success. MSU Billings has been a home away from home for me, and I would do anything to continue this experience… This scholarship has been my saving grace. Thank you all so much for your help.” — Elizabeth E., Health and Human Performance major with Teaching Option K-12
